How much feathering does it have?

Feathers, not size, tell you what stage the bird is in.

• Feathered, hopping, short stubby tailA fledgling. Parents are almost certainly nearby.
• Naked, pink, or downy with closed eyesA nestling. It cannot be out of the nest.
• A cat or dog had it, or there is visible bloodTime-critical regardless of stage.
