If you photograph wild animals, your pictures could help people understand the ones around them. Every photograph used here is credited to the person who took it.

What we look for

• Wild animals, free, in their own habitat — never in a trap, a cage, a hand or a car, and never baited, cornered or disturbed for the picture.
• The animal calm and whole, doing what it does.
• Sharp on the eye, in good light, at full size — the file straight from the camera, not one shrunk for social media.
• No watermark, border, logo or date stamp.
• No nests or dens approached closely enough to disturb them. A photograph is never worth an animal's safety.
